Casting Call - David Bowie Christmas Special 1977 LIVE!...from Space!
Posted: August 30, 2010
RockUs Entertainment is casting for “The David Bowie Christmas Special 1977 LIVE! ...From Space!”, a stage version of the holiday special that was “pulled” from network television for being “too freaky.” We are looking for actors, performers, comedians, improvisers, entertainers, cover band singers, and karaoke rockstars.
All performers should be confident and comfortable engaging a large and rowdy audience. This show is an over-the-top comical farce and its success depends entirely on the ability of the performers to sell the show to the crowd. Look-a-likes and singing ability are good, but not as important as strong characterizations of these pop culture heroes. The music will be performed by a live band and will mostly consist of Bowie & Queen hits. Performers should be comfortable learning some simple choreography. Remember, we are looking for confident and energetic characters!
Auditions will be held September 13th and 14th at the Dougherty Arts Center. Late afternoon and evening audition slots available until 9pm. Please submit audition availability with headshot and resume, as well as which roles you feel are appropriate for you to RockUsAustin@Gmail.com. Please bring to the audition a CD with your choice of a 30-second clip from an appropriate 70s song with which to sing-along.
Performances will in December (no later than Dec. 21), with rehearsals beginning mid-October. There will be a cast readthrough in September. Rehearsals will be fairly flexible and likely only 3 weekday evenings per week until tech week, so please bring conflicts to the audition and we can try to work with you if cast. Principle actors should also be able and available in November/December to go out to downtown bars on the occasional weekend to help promote the show/get krunk!
ROLES:
David Bowie - (Male or Female Actor) David Bowie obviously carries the show and so must be able to confidently command a stage by him or herself. An erotic or sensual presence in required, as is playful physicality with the audience. Ability to do own makeup is a plus, as Bowie will transform between his many iterations, This role will be physically demanding and will require singing and dancing. Remember, we are looking for men or women for the role, the more androgynous, the better.
Annie Lennox - This is the short red-haired Annie Lennox everyone is familiar with, so we are looking for female performers willing to cut/dye their hair (tight hair-buns possible). The actor must be able to maintain a high, nearly-psychotic emotional energy. Singing ability not terribly important, but strong movement will be helpful.
Bizarro Bowie - (Male of Female Actor) Looking for over the top character actors to play this alien whose weirdness inspired Bowie’s entire persona and career. Androgyny is acceptable for this role as well. Singing ability not terribly important, but if you've got it, we might write a song for you.
Mick Jagger - Mick is a narrator of sorts for the show. A friendly nature is encouraged.
Freddie Mercury - Requires a confidence in singing on key and close to Freddie Mercury’s range (without sounding awful). Ability to grow a moustache is also encouraged.
Iggy Pop - Must have dark hair and visible chest muscles, and be comfortable being shirtless and acting drugged up.
Marianne Faithfull - Blond, beautiful, and British (or at least the accent). Should be in early 20’s
Charo - Blonde and busty. Pretty much sums up the real Charo too. Small but fun part if you don't mind playing into this characterization.
Bing Crosby, Buster Poindexter, Nipsey Russell - Looking for one strong, comedic character actor to handle all the smaller roles. Any ethnicity, but it would be easier to justify a white actor playing Nipsey than a black actor playing Bing Crosby.

Auditions for Scrooge, the Musical
September 11-13, 2010
The Georgetown Palace announces auditions for our upcoming production of Scrooge: The Musical
Music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse
It is based on Charles Dickens’ classic tale, A Christmas Carol.
Directed by Ron Watson
Choreography by Jill Schneider
Musical Direction by Nissa Kahle
Scrooge: The Musical is a 1992 stage musical with book, music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse. It was adapted from the 1970 film Scrooge starring Albert Finney. Bricusse won an Academy Award for the song score he wrote for the film, and most of those songs were carried over to the musical.
The musical and film are both adaptations of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol in which Ebenezer Scrooge undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night by being visited by Jacob Marley and the other three ghosts.
Auditions will be held Saturday, September 11th, starting at 2pm, and then Sunday, September 12th, starting at 6:00pm. Callbacks will be held Monday, September 13th, starting at 7pm. Rehearsals will generally be held Monday through Thursday, from 7-10pm, and Saturdays from 1-5pm. Performances will begin November 19th, and close December 30th. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, and Sunday at 2pm, with Weekday shows at 7:30 PM on Dec. 9, 15-16, 21-23 & 27-30 and a matinee on Saturday, Dec 18th at 2pm. There will be no performances on Dec 24th or 25th, but we will have a matinee on Dec 26th. All Auditions, Rehearsals, and Performances will be held at the Palace Theatre.

Driver: Thirty-something year old male, out of shape, used to playing second fiddle to his better-looking guy friends. Dry sense of humor. Sort of a Paul Giamatti from the movie Sideways.
Passenger: Thirty-something year old male, handsome, fit, charming, carefree, ladies man. Think Bradley Cooper from The Hangover. Golf experience necessary.
2. Wrigleys – Spec Commercial
Guy: Male, mid-20s to 30s, goofy and lovable. Not the brightest crayon in the box. Good comic timing necessary. Kind of like Bill and Ted of Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventures or Ashton Kutcher in Dude Where is my Car?
3. Enemy Territory Spec Commercial
Jim: Mid-30s, quirky, intelligent, closet gaming fanatic.
Sally: Mid-30s, proud new professional mom. Always dressed to the nines; sophisticated, intelligent. MBA type.

4. Zoosk – Spec Commercial
Cupid: White male, overweight, out of shape, goof ball. Must have excellent comic timing. Could go in the direction of something in the vein of the character Cameron in Modern Family or like Jack Black in School of Rock. Role calls for someone with a lot of physical comedy.
Romeo: 20 – 30 something, guy next door. Wholesome, eager, humble. A dreamer and helpless romantic. Think John Krasinski from the TV hit The Office.
Juliet: 20 – 30 something, girl next door. Pretty but understated.
